The Cass City village council approved upgrades to the water treatment plant to improve the reliability and long-term operation of the village's water system.
The current equipment that operates the system is outdated and increasingly difficult to support during to agin hardware, the limited availability of parts, and reduced manufacturer support, explained village Manager Debbie Powell.
Because of that, the council approved upgrades to use the CompactLogix platform and new cellular communication systems to improve operational stability and to reduce the risk of equipment failure.
The cost to do that is $175,252 and is contingent on receiving an installment purchase agreement and a low interest rate from the bank.
The upgrade will enhance communication between the water treatment plant, well houses, and electric storage tanks.
To go along with that, the council approved spending $7,525 for a software system to allow water customers to prepay.
Under the current system, only cash was accepted at the dock.
