After months of negotiations, the village of Almont and Almont Township reached an agreement on police coverage.
Under the three-year contract, the township will pay the village $735,000 in the first year of the contract.
The fee for law enforcement services will increase by 3 percent the second year of the contract and there will be a 3 percent increase in the third year.
As part of that agreement, the village will provide a quarterly financial report.
To help cover the cost of the service, the millage that is levied for police services might have to be increased slightly.
It was also noted housing and business development has been steadily increasing which means the tax base increases.
The township will conduct a public hearing on June 8 regarding millages.
