During Monday's Tuscola County Commissioners meeting, Tuscola County Road Commission Highway Engineer Brent Dankert reported several roads in the county were damaged during the recent rainstorms.
The rainstorms and flooding not only damaged several roads, but also washed out some culverts.
Because of that, county Chair Kim Vaughan signed a state of emergency.
In Almer Charter Township, the rain damaged Dutcher Road, Darbee Road, and Fairgrove Road, according to Dankert.
The roads that have been damaged in Elmwood Township include Hoppe, Walsh, and Green roads.
The road commission was able to do enough repairs to be able to have all of the roads open except Dutcher Road that has two culverts next to each other.
At least $250,000 worth of road work will have to be done. The minimum requirement for a state of emergency is $259,000 to qualify for funding. Dankert is confident the damage will cost more than that.
"There was 1.5 inches of rain in one storm in 15 minutes," noted Dankert.
If the county qualifies for emergency funding, it is expected to take several months before the money arrives.
