Superintendent Jordan Ackerman provided a report on the "42 strong program" the district implemented during the last board of education meeting.
The 42 Strong program is a peer-to-peer mentoring initiative created to honor the legacy of Tate Myre, who was one of the students that was killed in the Oxford High School shooting on November 30, 2021, along with fellow students Hana St. Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin, and Justin Shilling.
The Myre family used their grief to focus on building a "better, brighter, and safer" future for youth by fostering relationships, resilience, and a sense of community with the 42 strong program.
The mission of the program is to create a better future by helping students develop a greater sense of purpose, community, and resilience.
Several school's like Reese have embraced the program since then.
Board member Amie Goodrow recounted a 42 strong story about a student who lost their water bottle and how her daughter asked to replace that child's water bottle which made the child's day.
Vice President Danny Palm said he is excited about the growth the data is showing, but he emphasized that data is not everything and said that the 42 strong reflects that.
In other matters, the district reported the valedictorian is Wesley Haines and the Salutatorian Emma Fisher of this year's graduating class.
