A developer is planning on constructing nearly 400 housing units in the city of Burton, but there is a lot of paperwork that needs to be done before a shovel goes in the ground.
The plan is to construct five apartment complexes in multiple stages over the next few years.
When construction is complete there will be 378 multi-family, residential housing units.
The developer is Matthew King of Kingsway Development Group, Inc. The construction site is 2229 South Center Rd., which is near the Meijer store.
One of the many requirements King had to deal with was getting approval to have less than the required two parking spaces for each apartment, which wasn't an easy task.
King and the city's zoning board of appeals reached an agreement that the complex would have the equivalent of 1.4 parking spaces. That would equal out to be the loss of 160 parking spaces.
However, there is a tentative plan for the Genesee County Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) to have a bus stop at the complex.
King and the city are working with engineers from Flies and Vandenbrink of Grand Blanc.
