Laker High School is pleased to announce the Class of 2026 valedictorian, salutatorian, and top honor students. Sarah M. Steinman has earned valedictorian honors with a GPA of 4.33968. Jeffrey C. Ignash has earned salutatorian honors with a GPA of 4.332.

Valedictorian Sarah M. Steinman is the daughter of Tricia and James Steinman of Elkton. Sarah has maintained a spot on the All-A Honor Roll all four years of school. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since her 10th-grade year and participated in the Rotary Interact Club during her junior year. She has completed at least 100 hours of community service. Sarah is dual enrolled at Mid Michigan College via the Huron Area Technical Center, as well as being a first-year Health Science student. She was on the Scholar's List for her first three semesters at dual enrollment. Sarah competed at the state level for the Nursing Assistant HOSA competition through the Health Science program. She became a member of the National Technical Honor Society this year. Sarah holds a leadership position in FFA as the Laker FFA Chapter Parliamentarian. She has competed in Parliamentary Procedure at the regional level, Veterinary Science at the state level, and Poultry at the national level. Sarah was a member of the Laker Band for six years as a flutist and one year as a color guard member during marching band. Sarah has also been a member of the Laker Science Olympiad team for three years, where she has competed in events such as Rocks and Minerals, Astronomy, and several other events. She and her partner placed second at the regional level for Anatomy and Physiology this year. Sarah is currently participating in track and field as a shot put and discus thrower. She was a member of the Laker Theater Company for five years, where she acted in several musicals and dinner theater productions. In the fall, Sarah will attend Michigan State University's Lyman Briggs and Honors College as a Human Biology major. She hopes to eventually attend Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine to become a family physician.

Salutatorian Jeffrey C. Ignash is the son of Joseph and Tracey Ignash of Caseville. Jeffrey has been enrolled in the Mid Michigan College Dual Enrollment program at the Huron Area Technical Center for his junior and senior years, where he has achieved placements on the President's and Scholar's Lists. Having been sophomore class president, he took on other leadership positions as the president of the National Technical Honor Society and the president of his DECA chapter, part of a global student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. Jeffrey is very active in DECA through the HATC Marketing program. He has won several awards that have sent him twice to DECA states and the International Career Development Conference, and was a finalist for state officer his junior year. NTHS, the National Honor Society, and sports have provided Jeffrey with numerous community service and volunteer opportunities. He has participated in food distributions and drives, marched in Christmas parades, represented the HATC to many students and schools, and helped coach elementary Soccer Academy. He is a member of Laker Rotary Interact, attended Rotary Youth Leadership camp, and has traveled to the Dominican Republic on a humanitarian mission with a group of Rotarians for three years. Jeffrey is a four-year varsity soccer player and also ran varsity cross country during the same season for three years, and varsity track for four years. He has earned Academic All-Conference, Academic All-State, and Scholar-Athlete honors in all three sports, has received All-Conference honorable mentions for soccer and track, and was the 2025 300-meter hurdle regional champion. Jeffrey has been active in 4-H since he was a Cloverbud, showing artwork every year and winning Best of Show for a large acrylic farm painting in 2024. Outside of school, Jeffrey has refereed youth soccer, worked at Dairy Queen and Star of the West Milling Company, and helped his family on his grandpa's corn and pumpkin farm. In the fall, he plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University's Honors College as a President's Scholarship recipient to major in political science and business management.

Josiah is the son of David and Elizabeth Maurer of Pigeon. Madison B. Scaddan with a GPA of 4.211. Madison is the daughter of Paul and Celine Scaddan of Pigeon. Luke J. Good with a GPA of 4.102. Luke is the son of Jonathan and Kimberly Good of Caseville. William A. Moreno with a GPA of 4.050. William is the son of Daniel Hernandez and Sonia Vazquez Dimas of Kinde. Joshua M. Schaefer with a GPA of 3.995. Joshua is the son of Matthew and Jamie Schaefer of Pigeon. Mariam E. Shupe with a GPA of 3.987. Mariam is the daughter of David and Nicole Shupe of Elkton. Lakyn M. Krohn with a GPA of 3.982. Lakyn is the daughter of Steven and Mandie Krohn of Elkton.
