The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) has awarded more than $450,000 to strengthen home-based child care across southeastern and northwestern Michigan. The funding aims to expand Family Child Care Network (FCCN) hubs and support up to 125 additional providers.
The investment will help connect home-based child care operators with training, technical assistance, and business support through the Early Childhood Investment Corporation's Child Care Innovation Fund. These networks are designed to improve program quality and long-term stability while increasing access to reliable child care for families.
Currently, more than 550 providers participate in Michigan's FCCNs. The new funding will allow Northwest Michigan Works! and MiSide Early Years to launch and expand five regional networks.
Northwest Michigan Works! received more than $260,000 to serve providers in 11 northern Michigan counties. MiSide Early Years was awarded about $170,000 to expand services in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
State officials say the investment supports small child care businesses and helps address workforce and family needs. By expanding these networks, Michigan aims to strengthen early learning opportunities and improve access to affordable, high-quality care.
