Hemlock Public School District is reporting enrollment growth and positive financial results as Michigan schools continue to navigate rising operating costs.

An independent audit of the district's 2025-2026 fiscal year, conducted by Weinlander Fitzhugh, resulted in an unmodified opinion, indicating the district's financial statements were fairly presented under applicable accounting standards.

The district also finished the fiscal year with revenues slightly exceeding expenses.

Meanwhile, student enrollment climbed to more than 1,333 this fall, continuing an upward trend.

District officials credit long-term financial planning and investments in educational programs for helping strengthen Hemlock's position.

Those investments include the Lockwood STEM Center, expanded academic opportunities, and facilities supporting athletics and performing arts.

School Board President Matt Wesener says the district's financial position helps protect educational opportunities while supporting students and staff.
