Residents across Michigan's Thumb will have an opportunity this weekend to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medications.

The Michigan State Police will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, October 24th, with collection hours running from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Residents of Huron, Sanilac, Tuscola, Lapeer, Bay and Saginaw counties can take advantage of the statewide initiative, which allows unused or expired prescription pills to be turned in anonymously, with no questions asked.

State Police officials say the program helps prevent prescription drug misuse, accidental poisonings and environmental contamination.

All 31 State Police posts across Michigan are participating!

Only pills will be accepted. Liquids, inhalers, patches and syringes are prohibited.

Those unable to participate Saturday can drop off unwanted prescription medications at State Police posts during regular weekday business hours.

Collection locations can be found at Michigan.gov/MSPPosts.
