A Huron County criminal sexual conduct case involving Kyle Soper is moving toward a preliminary examination after a plea offer was discussed but not accepted during a probable-cause conference.

According to statements made in court, prosecutors offered an agreement that would have required Soper to waive his preliminary examination and plead guilty to both counts. Prosecutors indicated they would not pursue additional counts or further sentencing enhancements under the proposed deal, while Soper would be responsible for full restitution.

Instead, the preliminary examination will remain on the court calendar.

The prosecution also renewed objections to Soper's bond, arguing the charges involve a violent capital felony and questioning whether the required bond factors were adequately addressed at arraignment.

The court did not change Soper's release status during the proceeding.

The case remains pending, and the allegations have not resulted in a conviction.
