LaVerne E. Shemka, age 91 of Bloomfield Township, Port Hope went to be with the Lord our Savior on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. LaVerne was born September 13,1932 in Parisville to John Sr. & Minnie Shemka. He attended Country School in Parisville and Ubly High School. On August 8, 1953, he married Mary Vogel at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. They celebrated 70 years of marriage last August with family and friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bad Axe. LaVerne was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was an avid bowler in his younger years, did a lot of fishing over the years and had a great love for polka music. He loved playing euchre anytime, anyplace and a good game of nickels. He spent his winters in Florida after retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked at many fish fries in his later years. He enjoyed visiting with everyone, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As many people knew LaVerne often greeted you in polish saying “Jak Ci idzie” which means “How you doing?” and he always loved a good cold zimne piwo(pronounced pee-va). He will be missed dearly
