Funeral service for Marv will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Hope with Pastor David Dodge officiating. Burial will take place at Marquardt Cemetery in Port Hope. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the MacAlpine Gage Chapel in Kinde from 2 – 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be offered to the St. John’s Lutheran Window Fund or to Donor’s Choice. Condolences can be shared at www.macalpinefuneralhome.com

(Vicki) Koglin, of Port Hope, Julie (Dean) Kreh of Owendale, David (Lisa) Koglin of Bad Axe, Daniel (Angie) Koglin of Port Hope and Brenda Richardson of Memphis, Michigan; grandchildren: Kevin (Ashley) Kreh, Kristopher (Erin) Kreh, Kayla (Michael) Sweeney, Mallory (Kyle) Korpalski, Erin (Eric) Allen, Stacey (Adam) Farmer, Kristen (Mike) Rifenbark, Kari Ann (Travis) Osantoski, Tiffany (Kenny) Shepherd, Allyson (Wesley) Roggenbuck, Eric Koglin (special friend, Katie Kelly), Shannon (Bradley) Strozeski, Cody and Ashley Koglin, and Emily Richardson; great grandchildren: Kristina, Nicole, Alexandra, Daniella, Kaylie, Molly, Maci, Elle, Lyle, Noah, Cooper and Austin, along with three more on the way. He is also survived by his sisters, Arlene Jurgess of Harbor Beach and Geraldine Koth of Filion; his brother, Ronald (Rosemary) Koglin of Fort Gratiot; and sister in law, Patricia Koglin of Port Huron along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Richardson; his son-in-law, John Richardson; his brother, Junior Koglin,; his sister, Virginia (Norman) Finklel; brothers-in-law, Fred Jurgess and Merle Koth.

Biography

Marvin H. Koglin, 87, of Port Hope, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2017 at Lakeview Extended Rehab in Harbor Beach. Marv was born in Huron Township on July 29, 1930 to the late Gustave and Adeline (Eggert) Koglin. On August 24, 1957, he married the love of his life, Joyce E. Brade at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kinde. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Marv was a lifetime dairy farmer. He was a lifetime member of the Farmers Union, and the Michigan Milk Producers. Marvin was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Hope. In his younger years, he was in the Tip of the Thumb Square Dancers Club, he was on the first Zoning Board for Huron Township and he was on the finance committee and ushered at church. When Marv wasn’t farming, he loved to dance, tend to his vegetable garden, play cards with his club, and collected toy tractors, at one point owning more than 300 tractors. He loved his family, making sure his grandchildren’s boyfriends were worthy and loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
