Funeral Information

Funeral Services for Walter will be June 7, 2017 at 11 am, at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Dodge officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Military Honors will be given in honor of Walter by the AmVets Post 115 of Port Hope. Visitation for Walter will be on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 2-8pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church beginning at 10 am until time of services at 11 am. An AmVets White Clover Service will take place on Tuesday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home, followed by a scripture service at 7 pm. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com

He is survived by his son Dennis (Lorna) Pleiness of Harbor Beach, Sandra Rosinski (Extra special friend Dale Talaski) of Saginaw, Donna Roggenbuck( Extra special friend Jim Blackstock) of Harbor Beach, Connie (Gerald) Tschirhart of Ubly, Grandchildren: Emily Pleiness, Jacob Pleiness, Chad (Kelli) Johnson, Cari (Jeff) Fritz, Ryan (Kim) Johnson, Eric (Lindsay) Roggenbuck, Craig Roggenbuck, Tasha Tschirhart, 10 great grandchildren, his sister Dorothy Roberts of Harbor Beach, sisters-in-law: Dora Collison of Port Hope, Ruth Clark, Elkton, Martha Klemp, Francis Klemp, numerous nieces and nephews and a special close friend Amy Reinke of Port Austin. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Steven Roggenbuck, Grandchild Chelsea Pleiness, his brothers: Herman, Harold, August Pleiness, and his sisters: Bertha Lange and Minnie Hearit.

Biography

WALTER E. PLEINESS, age 97 of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Christensen Care AFC, Marlette, after a short illness with pneumonia. He was born on January 8, 1920 at the Family farm in Port Hope, to the late Herman, Sr. and Hannah (Nickel) Pleiness. Walter was a lifetime farmer. He was united in marriage to Bernetta Klemp on August 12, 1950 in Port Hope. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1992. Walter was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope, where he served as an elder and usher. Walter served in World War II, with the 792nd, Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, where he saw wartime action in England, France, and Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifetime member of AmVets Post 115 of Port Hope, where he participated with bingo games, and was a Flag Carrier in Parades until the age of 90. He was honored to place Memorial Day Flags on the cemetery graves. He was a member of the Port Hope Retirees, and enjoyed playing euchre, the Detroit Tigers, hunting, fishing, bowling and his farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Family would like to say a special thank you to Holly at Christensen Care AFC, for the wonderful care she gave their Dad in the last few weeks and his buddies Jerry and Bob at the care center for watching over him.
