Fifteen grandchildren: Thomas, Brianna, Nathanial, Elizabeth, Marianna, Vincent, Kyle, Michael, Bradley, Cassandra, Loren, Logan, Landon, Liam and Alexis and sixteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Ann Hubbard, Margart Baslock, Barbara Haag, Richard (Helen) Eisinger, William (Joan) Eisinger and David Eisinger. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Robert, James, Wilbur and Beverly, brother-in-laws Robert Hubbard and Richard Baslock.

Biography

Mary Jane (Janie) Martinez, age 78, of Bad Axe, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 with her children by her side. Janie was born on June 9, 1945 in Marquette, MI, daughter of the late Wilbert and Carabelle (Smith) Eisinger. Janie graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1963. She married Guadalupe (Lupe) Martinez on April 17,1965. Janie held many occupations over the years ranging from factory work at the old "Seat Belt" in Bad Axe to retail work at Norman's and later retiring from Bad Axe Walmart. Janie had an imagination that surprised all those close to her especially her children and closest friends. She was an expert of making much out of little to nothing. She enjoyed sewing and making Halloween and Christmas costumes for not only herself but family members, card boxes for weddings and graduations, cooking, doing word searches and was a collector of many things. She loved spending time with her family and friends no matter the function. One of her passions was dancing and she could always be found on the dance floor with friends and family wherever there was music. Her children and grandchildren were her life and she enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Trepkowski, Joseph Sweeney, Shirley Foster, Edward Sweeney, Helen Morley, Richard Sweeney, and Ann Dobis. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-laws Tom (Judy) Cregeur, Carolyn Krohn, Terry (Carl) Duda, Christine Titsworth, Noreen Cregeur, Lee Cregeur, Eric Cregeur, Holly Walsh, and Kelly (Dale) Ricker. She was preceeded in death by her sister-in-laws Charlotte Jaworski and Joy Cranston. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Biography

Kathleen Mary Cregeur, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and a friend to many, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the age of 67. Kathy was born on January 25, 1956 in Bad Axe, to the late Malcolm and Mary (McIntosh) Sweeney. She was the youngest of fourteen children. Kathy graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1973 and Central Michigan University in 1976 with a degree in Education. She married Daniel Cregeur, the love of her life, on May 29, 1976. Kathy dedicated over 43 years of teaching for the Huron County rural schools, with the majority of that time being at Verona Mills School. She retired in 2020, but continued her passion of working with children in religious education. Mrs. Cregeur was loved and respected by many of her students and their families. One of her favorite life lessons taught was “Always take the high road”. Kathy enjoyed camping with family and friends, hosting gatherings, gardening, music and concerts, a good book, and sunsets with her toes in the sand. She loved her family and was well known as Aunt Kathy to many. Kathy was a lifetime member of St. Columbkille church, Good Shepherd Parish, and was actively involved in faith formation.

Biography

He was born on June 24, 1935 in Ubly to Theodore and Felicia (Nowakowski) Kaliszewski. He grew up on a farm in Ubly, riding tractors, picking cucumbers and selling bottle caps. Mark graduated from the University of Michigan with a Mechanical Engineering Degree in Ann Arbor. He started out working for Chrysler, moving to Southeast Detroit where he and his former spouse began to raise their two sons. Eventually, he decided to move the family back to the thumb and he bought Martin Machinery from his uncle. He then moved on to work for Huron Castings on their sales team. He accomplished many things throughout his life, but his proudest was designing, building, and living most of his life in his dream home on the shore of Lake Huron. He enjoyed raising his sons and imparted much support, adventure, and knowledge to them. He continued to visit and support his sons in adulthood and loved visiting with them and his grandchildren. He believed in God, and that heaven is the Earth and its blessings that we are able to enjoy. He loved nature, especially birds and deer, and was an avid traveler, skier and sailor, frequently visiting our great national parks. He always said he was blessed to live during the greatest time in this country's history. His long and rich life warrants celebration. His impassioned advice was to always follow God and that you can achieve your dreams with, in his exact words, ingenuity and determination. The memory of Mark Kaliszewski will forever live on in our hearts and mind.

Gail Marie Lombardo, 73, of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Brian’s House in Essexville.Gail was born September 14, 1949 in Detroit to the late Donald and Josephine Meerschaert. She married Daniel Lombardo June 26, 1969 at St. Jude Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2019. Gail kept her family as her cornerstone. Her home was her hobby and first love which included some of the best meals ever served. Her work was her happy place where she would always go and come with a smile. Her dogs gave her extra companionship, mostly having two at a time. Gail had passions that involved art and making things beautiful and comfortable, changing cloth into quilts, clay into ceramic art, ingredients into delicacy, pencil lead into paper art and framed life into photographic gems. Gail took the time to show her family each how to smell their own roses and create art themselves. She took the time to inspire generations to become something great in their own minds, holding true to her values, finding what makes you happy, doing jobs that make you proud, holding fast to Jesus and growing some plants.

Fern D. Dubs, 80, of Bay Port, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at her home under hospice care. Fern was born February 23, 1943 in Pigeon to the late Arnold and Ada (Dean) Binder. She graduated from Laker High School in 1961. She married Dennis Dubs on May 17, 1975 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. Fern worked in the housekeeping department at Scheurer Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, their Ladies Aid Society, taught VBS and was a youth group leader. She enjoyed going to estate sales, gardening, baking and spending time at the beach with her grandkids.

Biography

Dale Kozlowski, 68, of Port Austin, died in his home on August 5, 2023, under hospice services following a long illness. He was born on January 30, 1955, to Marie Kozlowski (Koroleski) and the late Earl Kozlowski. He married Denise Kozlowski (Schramski) on August 31, 1974. Dale began working for his father’s drywall business and eventually took over the business, known as Kozlowski Drywall. The trade was eventually passed on to his son, Wayne, who still manages the business with his sons today. Dale enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandkids. Dale was known by many for his ability to crack a joke at any time.

Virginia was born on September 16, 1936 to the late Thomas and Gertrude (Laba) Andreski of Huron County. Virginia was married to James Elmer Kubacki for 57 years and they raised 7 children together. Virginia was a homemaker, growing a garden and canning to feed her family. She enjoyed raising hollyhocks and sweet peas and many numerous flowers. Virginia also worked for many years at both the Paper Roll and Level Factories. She loved bird watching and spending time with her family.

Biography

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy (Tim) O’Neil, who left us on July 31st, 2023 at the age of 75 years old. He was surrounded by his children and Lighthouse family as he peacefully departed to be with the angels in Heaven. Tim was born on April 4th 1948 in Harbor Beach Michigan to Morris (Bud) and Violet (Schroeder) O’Neil, and he brought joy, love, and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. He was a cherished husband to Toni whom he married August 7th 1971, a loving parent to his children, and a loyal friend to many. Tim lived a life filled with purpose and touched the hearts of countless people. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, recreational and competitive shooting sports and shared that enthusiasm with those around him. Tim served in the US Navy from 1966-1970. During his life, Tim faced both triumphs and challenges, but he always handled them with grace, resilience, and an unwavering spirit. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. In addition to his personal accomplishments, Tim was a valued member of the community. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. He actively participated in the Harbor Beach Gun Club, the Thumb Sportsmen’s Club and the American Legion. Tim's presence will be sorely missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and inspiration that will continue to guide and comfort us in times of sorrow.

Brian David Woodward, age 64 of Detroit, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at William Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills. Brian was born on Jue 5, 1959 in Fremont, to the late Allen and Marjorie (Lang) Woodward. Brian graduated in 1977 from Port Hope Schools. He attended Delta Community College and also attended Northwood University where he graduated with a bachelors degree in business and computer science. Birna worked as a contractor for Ford Motor Company. Brian loved the outdoors. His caregivers took him fishing, hunting, and boating. He enjoyed being with family and friends. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Redford where he was a member of the Choir. Brian was a huge advocate for rights for the disabled. He was instrumental in the group called "We Can't Wait", combatting the government that took their no fault insurance benefits away in 2019. Brian mentored other quadiplegic crash survivors. He tutored and mentored children in his community. He was a caring, compassionate, giving person who always was willing to help someone in need. He always had a smile on his face and kind words to say.

Shirley Marie Bredow, age 78, of Caseville, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at her home. Shirley was born June 14, 1945 in Bad Axe, the daughter of the late Frank and (Agnes) Ross and Jeanette (Jim) Hewitt. She married William “Bill” Bredow on February 28, 1982. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2016. She was a 1964 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked at General Cable in Cass City, worked in the activity department at both Sunny Acres Nursing Home and Four Seasons nursing home and also at Caseville IGA. One of her cherished trips was when she traveled to Israel. She participated in an archaeology dig for a mastodon’s bones in the Deckerville area. She enjoyed creating recipes and made several cookbooks. She also enjoyed making crafts, preserving and canning fruits, vegetables and meat, writing in her journals, reading the Bible daily and listening to Christian music. She also enjoyed writing letters and sending cards to family and friends. She loved her family very much.

He was born on January 30, 1937 in Lansing, MI, son of the late Reverend Howard and Thelma (Defoe) Burk, Sr. Howard was a truck driver for much of his adult life. He also worked at Thumb Tool and Engineering in Bad Axe until he retired. Needing to stay busy, Howard worked part-time at McDonalds Food and Family Center. He played organ and piano for church and enjoyed playing church softball and bowling.

He was born on June 19, 1932 in Little Falls, NY to the late Phillip and Marie Gerhardt. He and Beatrice Drinkhorn were united in marriage on October 5, 1963. Fred attended University of Michigan on a golf scholarship, and was a graduate of the U of M Dental School. He worked in Harbor Beach for 25 years, before retiring in 1983. Golf and his work were his passion. He was a golf enthusiast and won multiple golf championships.

Shirley (Campbell) Drummond 86 years old of Croswell, passed away peacefully with her five children by her side at Sanilac Medical Care Facility in Sandusky, on July 28, 2023. Shirley was born to the late Neil and Marie (Weiler) Campbell on December 10, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan. Shirley and Duane Drummond were married on February 11, 1955 and were married for 65 years before he preceded her in death. Shirley ran two group homes for over 30 years, offering a warm and friendly loving place for many to live in. She had a great love for people and animals and she enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Lori was the fifth child born among her siblings which include Deb (Dennis) Stephenson, Cindy (special friend Kevin) Booms, Brenda (Brian) Young, Rodney (Kelly) Weiss Jr., and Randy (Mary) Weiss. Lori was a realtor for nearly twenty years and had many hobbies. Some of those hobbies included crafting, painting, DIY’ing, reading, bargain shopping, and spending time with her family. Most important to Lori was her strong faith in God and she lived her life accordingly. She had an infectious smile and was always radiating kindness to those around her. Even though Lori was taken too soon, she lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who adored her.

He graduated from North Huron High School in 1983. He worked locally as an electrician. His passion was music, playing lead guitar with dozens of bands. In 2002 he produced his own album, Hear My Cry, with his brother-in-law Mike Karle. He played worship with The River’s Edge Church in Caseville, where he had been baptized twenty years ago. He enjoyed gaming with his grandchildren.

James “Jim” Zmich, 82 years old of Ubly and Pigeon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Jim was born to the late Joseph and Agnes (Kulish) Zmich on April 14, 1941. Jim was a lifelong dairy and crop farmer in Austin Township. He was a member of Knights of Columbus council 1546 in Bad Axe for 64 years, having joined in 1959. He was very proud of his ability to play the organ and played at St. Ignatius Catholic Church for 40 years. Jim loved to tinker making mechanical objects out of bits and pieces. He enjoyed picture puzzles and any other kind of puzzles he could get his hands on.

Biography

Grace (Lawler Hirzke) McEachin of Deckerville died on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Phil, surrounded by her children. She was born on a hot summer day, August 28, 1931, to Mike and Eleene (Johnson) Lawler in Palms, Michigan. She grew up on a farm and knew what hard work was. Being the eldest, she often was in charge of her younger siblings, which served her well later in life. She attended McManus Country School and graduated from Deckerville High School in 1949. Grace married Edmund Hirzke in September 1948, and they had four children. Ed died in a car accident in March 1959. In July 1960, she married Richard McEachin, and together they raised their children and shared 63 years of a true love story. Grace’s secretarial, bookkeeping, and problem-solving skills were instrumental in the success of McEachin Excavating. She was a businesswoman, homemaker, and community volunteer. Grace and Richard loved the Deckerville Community Hospital and worked tirelessly to support it. Grace was a member of St. Mary’s parish, the Sororian Club, and president of the Hospital Auxiliary for several years. She enjoyed ceramics and traveling. Grace opened her home and her heart to many, but nothing gave her greater joy than being together with family. She often proclaimed, with her beautiful smile, how lucky she was to have her family.

Mariane was born May 30, 1944 in Detroit to the late Walter and Elsie (Wikenczy) Sheyachich. She married Franklin Briesmeister on September 14, 1963 in Mt. Clemens; he preceded her in death May 11, 2016. Mariane was a faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. She loved her dog Beadie and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for baking her peanut butter cookies, apple pies and banana bread.

Tracy A. Jacobi, 62, of Caseville, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Scheurer Health in Pigeon. Tracy was born January 31, 1961 in Cass City to the late Laverne and Lauralie (Dutcher) Jacobi. In 1979 he graduated from Sandusky High School. He married Carla Oorbeck on February 16, 1985 at the Caseville United Methodist Church. He built homes with Chris Bowlby and owned Tracy’s Marine Service in Caseville repairing boats, retiring in 2016. He was a former member of the Caseville Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors, boating, hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He was a sports fan, watching NASCAR and baseball.
