David P. Schafer, age 53 of Bad Axe received his wings, Monday October 20, as he was called home by our Lord. He was born September 3, 1961, in Bad Axe to Donald and Elaine (Hill) Schafer, grew up in Elkton and was a 1980 graduate of Laker High School. David worked many years at Axly Tool, Bad Axe. He then became a CENA and worked at the Huron County Medical Care Facility for a time, returning to the tool and die trade this time at Huron Tool, Bad Axe, until retiring in December of 2011 for health reasons. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. David loved spending time with his family, watching sports, always rooting for his favorite Michigan teams, the Lions, Tigers and U of M Wolverines. David was a gentle soul, always putting himself second to those he loved most. The love in his heart for his parents, family and friends went beyond understanding.

ROBERT J. DUTCHER, age 89 of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born on August 11, 1925 in Bay Port to the late John and Elizabeth (Lambert) Dutcher. He and Francia Ginebra were united in marriage on July 1, 1954 in the Dominican Republic. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2014. Bob served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. Bob also graduated from the University of Detroit. Bob worked as a Construction Manager for Alcoa Construction all over the world including: Dominican Republic, Iowa, Indiana, South America, Pennsylvania, Mexico, Pittsburgh, Trinidad and Brazil. He was a member of the Harbor Beach Rotary Club where he was a Past President, Treasurer for many years, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a past Captain of the USCG Auxiliary in Maine and Michigan. He enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes, golfing and fishing.

He was born on February 15, 1940 in Port Hope to the late Floyd and Frieda (Schubring) Schave. Bob Served in the US Army from 1958 until 1961, serving in the Korean Conflict. He and Linda Breskey were united in marriage on November 2, 1963 in Port Hope. Bob was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope and a life member of the AmVets of Port Hope. Bob loved running his backhoe, and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

Frank married the love of his life, Elaine Rose Mousseau on January 28, 1956 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church. They loved and raised five children: Francis of Bad Axe, Bob of Chesapeake, Virginia; Mark (Carolyn) of Bad Axe, Dan (Lori) of Orange Park, Florida; and Mary Ann (Bruce) Messing of Bad Axe. Blessed with fifteen grandchildren: Jason, Levi (Jessica), Rachelle Schultz; Savannah Schultz, Jodie Smith; Jennifer (Robert) Niec, Crystal Schultz, Kim (Dave) Roland, Brandon (Kylee) Schultz, Josh (Chrissy) Schultz, Shannon, Sabrina, Samantha Schultz, and Morgan and Hannah Messing. An extra blessing is his nine great-grandchildren: Xavier, Lydia, twins Edison and Sylvia, Cole, Tucker, Peyton, Miller and Eli. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Powers of Roseville, Michigan; brothers-in-law Maurice, Dave (Betty), Jerome (Diane), Joe (Theresa), Larry (Kathy), Dan (Jennifer); sisters-in-law Georgina Blach and Susanne (Tom) Stahl; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his feline companion, Lucky, who will truly miss him. Frank was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert, Lawrence and his infant brothers Cornelius and Timothy and his sister Catherine.
The Lord invited Francis (Frank) Schultz Sr. to Heaven on October 19, 2014, and Frank accepted this call and left his earth family to join his family in eternity. Frank was born on January 11, 1930 to the late Catherine (McCarren) and Hubert Schultz in their family home on Steibe Road in Pinnebog, Michigan. He was baptized at St. Felix Catholic Church and served the Lord at Masses as an altar boy. He attended rural school in Pinnebog. Frank’s high school years were spent at Bad Axe High School, where he graduated in 1947. Frank was a Liquid Fuel Distributer, owner of Schultz Oil Company. Frank was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1546 for sixty-five years. He served as a treasurer for twenty-seven years and served as Grand Knight for two years. He was the last surviving member of the Fourth Degree Bishop Babcock Assembly #0487. Frank was also an active member of VFW post 116 in Bad Axe for the last seventeen years. Frank was also a longtime member of the Lions Club. Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart – St. Hubert Parish of Bad Axe, serving as an usher, lector, Eucharistic Minister as well as on the Parish Council in the year’s past. Frank served his community as an executive associate with MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe for 20 years, always there to open the door, take you by the hand and make sure you felt welcome. A special part of MacAlpine’s has been missing since his retirement in 2012. Frank’s greatest joy in life was being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank enjoyed traveling with his wife, Elaine on his many Korean War Veteran reunions throughout the U.S., even hosting one here in Bad Axe. Frank loved his trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Italy. He also enjoyed his winter breaks in Florida where he learned to swim at the age of seventy! Frank will be truly missed by his family, friendly neighbors Frank and Shirley Delpiere, Lowell and Beth McDonald, and Paul and Cathy Lerash.

Mildred M. Britt Schuette, 73 of Pigeon, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw. Born in Sebewaing on February 7, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Charlotte (Musselman) Britt, and graduated from Pigeon High School. On November 1, 1958 she was united in marriage to Orville Charles Schuette at the First Methodist Church in Pigeon. They had been married 52 years when Orville passed away on November 27, 2010. Mildred was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of her home community of Pigeon. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of Scenic Golf & Country Club. She was a member of the Pigeon Jaycettes, and was an active supporter of the Pigeon Lions Club for many years. Along with her husband Orville, she owned the Pigeon IGA Foodliner since 1975, and after his death, continued to be active in the business until illness prevented her from doing so. Mildred was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pigeon.

Mrs. Bessie Lauretta Kirsch passed away Monday, October 13, 2014, encircled by her husband and children at her home in Port Hope, MI. Bess’s positive outlook on life remained throughout her cancer diagnosis, and she was quick to say she lived a good life as she reflected on her 70 years. She was born on February 2, 1944 in Harbor Beach, MI, the daughter of the late Raymond and Laura Schumacher. Bess attended the Pumpkin Center Country School and Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School of Ruth, MI and Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School of Harbor Beach and graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1961 as a member of the first class to graduate in the school’s new gymnasium. On February 3, 1962, Bess and Donald Kirsch were joined in joyful matrimony at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. In their 52 loving years of marriage, they raised 6 children on their sheep farm in Sherman Township before moving to Port Hope in 1995 where she spent countless hours gardening and was known for living ‘in the house with all of the flowers.' Gardening was one of Bess’s talents; she was also an excellent cook who welcomed everyone to the table and a well-read and interesting conversationalist who loved to take pictures at family gatherings. Family and friends of Bess had a standing invitation to her annual Fourth of July picnic where the food was always plentiful and the town’s parade could be seen from the front yard.

Ronald E. Babisch age 71, of Grant Twp near Owendale died Sunday evening, October 12, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon. He was born August 21, 1943 in Warren Twp. Macomb Co. to the late Peter and Sophie (Sendrovicz) Babisch. Ron grew up in the Warren area, working at Massey-Ferguson and later driving truck. He moved to Owendale in the early eighties and started Babisch Home Maintenance, a small construction company. In 2003, he retired for health reasons. On November 28, 1987, he was united in marriage to Nancy L. (Mosey) Bouverette at Faith Gospel Tabernacle near Bad Axe and made their home in Grant Twp. Ron was a man of God and a minister as well. He traveled as an evangelist and also filled the need for ministry at both the Huron and Tuscola County jails spreading the faith to those inside. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing with the kids, mission projects, helping others and especially family time.

Grace was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Melvin Peter; her second husband, Lowell Morgan; one brother, Bryce Stambaugh; one granddaughter, Sarah Thurmond, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Mrs. Grace Peter Morgan, 74 of Ubly, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Covenant Harrison in Saginaw with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 7, 1940 in Ubly to the late Adelbert and Murneta (Cranston) Stambaugh. She married Melvin Peter on August 26, 1961 in Ubly. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1994. Grace was a 1959 graduate of Ubly High School. She farmed with her family all of her life. She worked at Dibbles and Gemini Plastics for a few years and was very proud of the jobs she performed. Grace was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. She also attended services and numerous activities at the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church. Grace always enjoyed her social life and loved to entertain and cook. No one was allowed to leave her house without being fed. She enjoyed quilting and playing games, especially card games of any kind. Grace enjoyed travelling and was very proud that she only missed visiting a few states before she was called home. Grace loved her family and friends and truly cherished being called “Mom” by many local kids. She lived for adventure, fun and nurturing the earth beneath her feet. She was loved and will be missed dearly until we all are reunited again.

Marjorie E. Dickinson, 78, of Cass City,MI died following a short illness Saturday, October 11, 2014 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center, Marlette, MI. She was born April 18, 1936 in Richmond, MI to Merle and Gertrude (Evans) East. She married Curtis Harlan Dickinson July 6, 1957 in Richmond, MI. He died October 17, 2006. As a co-op student Marge worked for General Telephone Company as a telephone operator. After graduation from Richmond High School in 1953 she was transferred to Cass City, MI and became the Chief Operator. Marjorie left General Telephone in 1962 when they converted to a dial system. She chose to stay home and begin her family. In 1978 Marjorie took a job with Pinney State Bank as a teller and worked until her retirement in 1993. She was a very active member of Cass City United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist before that. At one time she was director of Christian Education and has been an active member of United Methodist Women. Marjorie enjoyed coin collecting, gardening, knitting and many various crafts. She enjoyed baking but not cooking. When the family was young they shared many great camping trips making wonderful memories for her children. Marjorie was an avid Detroit Tiger Baseball fan and loved watching the grandchildren's sports events.

Edward C. Janke, age 86, of Sebewaing, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 at his home. Edward was born February 29, 1928 in Brookfield Twp., the son of the late Herman and Bertha (Menzel) Janke. On September 6, 1952 he married Norma Pommerenke at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on February 9, 1991. Edward enjoyed bowling, farming, talking about farming, crop checking and watching the Detroit Tigers.

Eunice M. Leitch, 81, of Chandler Twp. died Saturday evening, October 11, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. She was born May 15, 1933 in McKinley Twp. at the home of her parents, the late Stanley and Florence (Fritz) Schubach. On January 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to Oliver Leitch in Angola, Indiana. They lived in Pontiac while Oliver was employed at Pontiac Motors. In 1960, they moved back to Huron County settling near Elkton where they raised their family. Eunice enjoyed Tiger baseball, playing cards, cooking and canning. She helped harvesting the apple crop, gathering the honey from their bees and in the spring getting the sap to make real maple syrup. But most of all, she loved being with their children, grandchildren, family and friends. Oliver preceded her in death December 8, 2011.

Thelma B. Moore, age 90 of harbor Beach, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born in Jersey County, Illinois in 1924. She was the daughter of the late George and Irene (Cope) Wadlow. Thelma married Clare Moore on May 30, 1975 in Flint, where she resided until 2010. Clare preceded her in death in November 1996. Thelma enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, cooking and sewing along with spending time with her family.

He was born on July 6, 1935 in Ruth to the late Bernard and Alma (Tenbusch) Emming. He and Arlene Holdwick were united in marriage on June 1, 1957 in St. Anthony’s Church in Helena. Bob owned and operated a trucking company for many years. Bob was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church of the Holy Name of Mary Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Bob enjoyed playing softball and being manager of the Fosters Bar Softball Team. Bob thoroughly enjoyed playing euchre, gambling at the casinos, and making the famous Bob Emming Sausage. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Edward Louis Detgen, 89, of Bad Axe passed away October 9, 2014 due to complications from pneumonia. He was born on February 19, 1925 in Port Hope. Ed married Hilda on June 29 1946 at Grindstone City Methodist Church. He was a hard-working, good hearted, upstanding gentleman. He was a welder in his early years until farming became the bread and butter for his family. Ed planted roots on the “farm on the bend of the road” that brought children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends and strangers coming back for years. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. We picture him passing to the other side and saying “well I’ll be darned!”

On July 11, 1969, Sharon was united in marriage to Chester O’Cull at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Bad Axe. Sharon attended the United Protestant Church in Port Austin and was a member of the Thumb Two Cylinder Tractor Club. She loved to play Bingo, spending time at the U of I Club in Port Austin, going to blue grass music festivals and working in her flower garden.

Mr. John E. Schmidt (Schmitt) 79 of Bad Axe, formerly of Smith Corners, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe. John was born on May 25, 1935 in Bad Axe to the late John P. and Frances (Helewski) Schmidt. John attended the Maurer Country School. He then farmed with his family. John was a lifelong parishioner at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners. He always had a story to tell and enjoyed telling anyone who would listen.
