On September 25, 2024, at the age of 93, a very sweet, kind, loving man was called home to heaven. Gregory L. Mixter (Gramps) died at his home in Bad Axe, Michigan. He was born May 9, 1931 in Ubly, Michigan. He was the son of Loris and Leona (Richards) Mixter. Early in his life the family moved to the Richards farm near Ruth. He was a graduate of the OLLH Catholic School “Class of 49”. He met and married the true love of his life, Dolores Weber. The good Lord blessed them with 6 children: Pat (Gary) Grifka of Rhode Island, Barb (Clarence) Wolschlager of Bad Axe, Mary Lee (Jeff) Mazure of Traverse City, Judy (Mike) Oberski of Port Huron, Steven (Sherry) Mixter of Howell, and Paul (Corina) Mixter of Frankenmuth. They began their married life on a farm near Ruth. Along with farming, Greg was a maintenance man and bus driver for the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School. He left there and went to work at the Ruth Farmers Elevator. He became known as the “gas man”. He delivered fuel and visited with his many customers, often going out in the middle of the night to take fuel to a farmer or family in need, at no extra charge. At the station, you drove in, the bell rang, he came out, said hi, asked about the family and pumped your .30 cent per gallon gas while washing your windshield. After a few years, he was promoted to manager of the petroleum division. He helped design and build a new gas station that is still in use today. He was very proud of the new station. After 30 some years, he retired from there. Saying goodbye to their special life in Ruth, they moved to Bad Axe. There, they built a new home and a very happy retirement life. He worked part time with Gemini Plastics driving truck for a few years for “something to do!” Greg loved spending time with his family – playing cards, traveling and boy could he dance, especially the waltz. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and mowing lawn. He could be seen taking care of their yard winter, spring, summer and fall! He was a lifelong sports fan, attending his kids and grandkids sporting events faithfully. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan! He was always very active in his church, doing whatever was asked of him.

She poured her heart into every endeavor, sharing her gifts generously with family, friends, and the community. Her home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, Avon, creativity, and endless love. Whether through a kind word, an infectious laugh, or the sparkle in her eyes, Joanne made the world brighter, and her legacy of compassion will live on through the many lives she touched. Known for her incredible green thumb, Joanne had a way of nurturing life even in the toughest of circumstances—she could grow flowers in cement, turning even the most unlikely places into something beautiful.
