She is also survived by two step-brothers, Richard Bosley and Robert Bosley, both of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mary was preceded in death by one grandson, Lucas Klosowski of Bad Axe.
Mary Louise Klosowski, 74, of Port Austin, passed away suddenly at her home on Friday December 6, 2024. She was born March 8, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Robert Bosley MD and Mary (Rogers) Bosley. Mary grew up in Bad Axe with her mother and father and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1968. Mary and Robert Klosowski were married on July 14, 1973. Mary had several jobs over the years. She was employed at the Huron County Court House, Port Austin State Bank, Courtney Manor as a CENA, and later retired from the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She enjoyed gardening in her early years and loved her stuffed animals and reading a good book. Anyone that knew Mary knew that she had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her cat, Bunny. Above all, she loved her family dearly.

Kinsey was born October 7, 1943 in Huron County to the late William and Catherine (Devroye) Hazard. He married Phyllis Fibranz on July 23, 1964 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville; she preceded him in death on November 4, 2022. Kinsey retired from Elkton Roofing and Siding. He was a member of Century Oaks Golf Course, Thumb Bowling Association and the Two-Cylinder Club. He enjoyed making woodcrafts and time spent with his family.

Monica Hyzer 84of Filion passed away December 4, 2024 at her home with her loved ones by her side. Daughter to the late Edward and Margaret Branigan, she was born in Edinburg Scotland. Monica is preceded in death by her loving husband Dale of 63 years. Monica was happiest being outside with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They enjoyed blowing bubbles and drawing with sidewalk chalk with their loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Monica and Dales children have fond memories of their parents playing pranks on each other keeping their love alive. After the passing of Dale, Monica enjoyed watching Dale’s favorite Gunsmoke episodes to keep his memory alive.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend Luella (Dolly) Grace Simon, 92, of Bad Axe, Michigan passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024. She was born to the late Delia and Clifford Griffin on December, 19th, 1931 in Flint, Michigan. Dolly married Jack Lee Simon Sr. on March, 1st 1950 and together they raised a wonderful family of four children: Jack Simon Jr., Barbara Velliquette, Jeanette Maas, and Danny Simon. Dolly is preceded in death by her parents Delia and Clifford Griffin, husband Jack Simon Sr, and children Jeanette Maas and Danny Simon. Dolly raised her family in the Detroit area before coming up to the Thumb region. She was mostly a hard-working and nurturing housewife, but she also spent several years working at a couple schools in the suburbs of Detroit as kitchen personnel. Dolly along with her husband Jack visited Bad Axe in the early 1980’s and they fell in love with the area and decided to jump into a grand adventure as she would call it. They bought the Coral Gables Motel which they owned and managed for 10 years before selling it to their son Jack Simon Jr. Dolly loved studying the Bible and she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1960. Dolly greatly loved being faithfully involved in sharing Bible teachings with others and attending the congregation meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses with her family and friends. In her family and among the congregation, Dolly was known for her hospitality. She loved to regularly host family, friends, visiting congregation speakers and others from out-of-town. Nobody was a stranger to the Simon home. Dolly was known for her sweet and mild-mannered personality and (literally) would never harm a fly. Dolly always put others before herself and she spent much of her life as a caregiver to her family. When she had free time, Dolly enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, baking her famous pies, reading, traveling when she could, caring for animals, being among her flowers, going to the beach, listening to music and playing the piano, and most of all being with her loved ones. Dolly had a strong belief in what she learned from the Scriptures and she looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones in an earthly paradise. (John 5:28, 29; Psalms 37:11, 29)

Gary Clifton Rockefeller, age 81, of Gagetown, passed away at his home on hospice with his family by his side, on November 30, 2024. Gary was born in Cass City on May 20, 1943, to Clifton Floyd and Lilly Mae (Nicholas) Rockefeller. He graduated from Owengage High School in 1961. He married MaryEllen Gokey on December 8, 1962. He enjoyed farming his entire life. Along with farming, a few years he also worked at General Motors – Buick City in Flint. He enjoyed riding the trails up north at the cabin and seeing all the wildlife. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, but eventually his love of the animals had him stop hunting and started taking pictures of the wildlife.

She was born on June 7, 1934 in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Anthony and Julia Latozas. She and Gordon Morrison were united in marriage on May 29, 1958 in Pontiac. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1992. Julie was an active member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Ladies, she always enjoyed being with her friends and family.

Carol A. Williamson, age 88 of Caseville, was gathered into the arms of Jesus on November 26, 2024. She was born on December 2, 1935 in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Elmer Naumann and Laura (Klockow) Brown. She married the love of her life Terrance A. Williamson on June 22, 1956 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life was a beautiful testament to love, service, and faith. She lived a life full of joy, generosity, and purpose. She created countless treasured memories with her husband moving many times and traveling the world. She was known for her vibrant spirit and love for life’s simple pleasures including the beach, sunsets, and a good caramel frappe. She also spent many happy hours with the Red Hat Society, playing Bonko, or playing cards with friends. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She dedicated herself to serving others, joyfully volunteering at the local food pantry and contributing at church folding bulletins, welcoming new members, counting change, LWML, and handing out cookies at Vacation Bible School. She always had a way of making everyone feel special and loved. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, faith, and joy will live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Merlin Kain, age 92, of Bad Axe, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Meadow Lane in Bad Axe. He was born on December 16, 1931 in Sebewaing, Michigan, son of the late Leslie and Pearl (Comment) Kain. He married his sweet heart and best friend, Lois Albrecht on February 3, 1951 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. They lived in Brookfield Township for 70 years before moving to Bad Axe in 2001. Lois preceded him in death on September 25, 2022. Merlin was a graduate of Owendale High School. He excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He played baseball for the American Legion in Sebewaing and he was a charter member of the Owendale Lion’s Club. He was a member of Owendale United Methodist Church serving as a trustee for 25 years, and Brookfield Township Board of Review serving 10 years. He was a life-long farmer of which he loved. Merlin enjoyed people, golf, playing cards, board games, word find puzzles, polka and line dancing. He and Lois loved to travel taking in sites across the country and aboard. They spent 17 winters in Holiday Florida while active in community events and making many friends.

Jane M. Maurer, age 86 of Ruth, was gathered into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. She was born on February 3, 1938 in Tyre, MI, daughter of the late Stanley and Bertha (Grifka) Osentoski. She married Richard J. Maurer on June 22, 1957 at St. Johns Catholic Church, Ubly MI Jane was a loving wife and mother who created a warm inviting home for her family. All who gathered at her home were treated to a delicious meal as she was known for her homemade pies and bread. You never left the table hungry. She was an avid quilter making quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane was a lifelong bowler, a 55 year 4-H leader and a league golfer. Jane loved going for a car ride with her husband Richard. She gave her time and talents to the church, American Cancer Society, and many community boards and organizations.

William G. McNish Jr., age 85, of Ubly, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at his home. He was born on August 24, 1939 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, son of the late William G. and Violet (Spinsby) McNish, Sr. He married Barbara Gucwa on July 19, 1974. They were married for 50 years. Bill was the youngest of the five McNish children. He attended school in Brockville, Ontario and went on to Brockville Hospital and became a nurse. He then came stateside to St. Frances in Peoria, IL and became an anesthetist. He also worked at Albert Schyer Hospital for two years. He worked at Saginaw General for two years and then came to the Thumb area and worked for Scheurer Hospital for 19 years and then to Deckerville for another 19 years. He then took on-call on the weekends for all the Hospitals in the Thumb area. He was a ham operator and loved to fly model airplanes.

Bill was a good husband and father, but his favorite role was grandpa. He is survived by his wife, of 53 years, Marsha and their son Keith (Patricia), and granddaughter Lucy all of Port Austin Township. He is also survived by his siblings; Geraldine Arnold, Robert (Merrily) Jimkoski, George (special friend Diane Myers) Jimkoski, Judy (William) Harper, and James (Dawn) Jimkoski; in-laws Marion Chaplinski, Gail (Nelson) Young, Cheryl Jeffrey, and Robert Pitcher and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his father & mother-in-law, Roy and Alma Pitcher; in-laws Alonzo Arnold, Nancy Jimkoski, Charlene Jimkoski, Eugene Chaplinski, and Marv Jeffrey.
William Joseph Jimkoski, lifelong resident of Port Austin Township, joined our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 18th, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle. Bill was born December 1, 1945, in Port Austin Township, at his family home to the late John and Jennie (O’Neal) Jimkoski. He graduated from Port Austin High School in 1963 entering the workforce after graduation. Bill was a proud Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for 2 years from 1967 to 1969 serving in the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor, 5th Infantry Division (mechanized) bravely fighting side by side with his military brothers. When he returned home, he met and fell in love with Marsha Pitcher and they were united in marriage on April 24, 1971, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin where they have continued their faith filled lives together. Bill was a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ although his family and friends will argue he mastered all he tried to do. He had a special talent of creating anything from nothing. He spent his working career at H&J Industries, R. Hogan Construction, Gene Clancy & Sons Excavating, North Huron Metal Craft, and several other local companies learning and honing his skills in carpentry, heavy equipment operating and repairing any type of motor or mechanical function. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman with a special passion for duck hunting and could always be found outdoors. During the summer months Bill would usually be riding his motorcycle anywhere he traveled and could be recognized by the flags he proudly flew on the back. Bill loved everything about being part of the Grindstone City community and could be found visiting the harbor or a local establishment for a noontime iced tea.

Marci “Pug” was born July 7, 1941 in Detroit to the late Clinton and Clara (Renn) Reid. She grew up in Marlette. She retired from Kroger, working her way up the ranks, she opened new stores, hiring and training new staff and opening the office. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends. She had a generous spirit and strong faith. She was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne.

Gerald J. Auten, 88, of Cass City, died Sunday, November 17, 2024 in Courtney Manor Nursing Home, Bad Axe. He was born March 31, 1936 at home in Novesta Township to Kenneth J. and Etta Mae (Collins) Auten. He married Donna Jean Bader on August 6, 1955 in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Cass City. She died September 25, 2018. Gerald worked as a mechanic at the Ford Garage and later as a machinist at General Cable for thirty-eight years until retiring in 1998. As a side project he owned a machine shop, Auten Machine and Tool. Gerald’s favorite pastime was refurbishing farm equipment. He also enjoyed hobby farming and raising cattle. Gerald was an active member of Cass City United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board, the building committee, and as a trustee. Gerald and Donna were charter members of the Northwood Stompers Camper Club. Together they danced for over fifty years with the Town and Country Square Dance Club. Gerald was a proud volunteer at the Thumb Octagon Barn and Agricultural Museum. He was also a charter member of the Thumb Two Cylinder Club and held various offices in both clubs.

Diana Lynn (Lossing) Braun, age 69 of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at her home under hospice care surrounded by her loving family. Diana was born on June 8, 1955 in Deckerville, daughter of the late Charles and Augusta (Lietka) Lossing Diana was a beautitian for 40 years, she was also a CNA at Tendercare (Medilodge) of Cass City. During that time she made a lot of friends whom she cared about greatly. She enjoyed laughing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with all her family and loved ones. She was always involved in the church and loved telling people about Jesus. She always did what she could to help others whether it was words over coffee or giving anything she could. She demonstrated her love, strength, compassion and faith throughout her life and that is how she would want to be remembered.

Doris Jean Schuette, age 86, of Pigeon, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 at Huron County Medical Care in Bad Axe. She was born on January 21, 1938, in Bay Port, Michigan, the daughter of the late Henry John and Alvira (Eden) Siewert. Doris graduated from Pigeon High School in 1956 and received a degree from Baker Business College. On February 13, 1960, she married Harvey LeRoy Schuette at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Berne, where she was an active member of the Women’s Society and involved in other church and school activities. Harvey preceded her in death on August 18, 2023. Throughout her life, Doris worked diligently in a variety of roles. She was employed at Dow Chemical, a trucking company, her brother’s Sunoco gas station, and Huron Loan before spending the last 18 years of her career as the finance director of the Huron County Health Department. Doris had a wide array of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed watching Detroit Lions and Tigers games with her husband, Harvey, and participated in bowling leagues. She was an avid reader, loved solving word puzzles, and took pride in creating beautiful quilts and wall hangings, which showcased her artistic talents and meticulous attention to detail.

Leonard L. Souva, 78, of Caseville, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Aspire Rural Health in Marlette. Leonard was born October 29, 1946 in Bad Axe to the late W. Raymond and M. Fran (Gottschalk) Souva. In 1964 he graduated from North Huron High School. He served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. He married Beverly Klein on November 7, 1981at St. John Episcopal Church on Sand Point. He worked at Michigan Oven and retired from Evenheat Kiln, both in Caseville. Leonard was a 4-H Leader for 15 years and a member of the Huron County Sheriff’s Posse. He enjoyed line dancing, having coffee at local restaurants, riding horses (especially Jackson), raising llamas, and was known for his fun-loving personality. He enjoyed teasing people, especially kids by calling them Stella or Pete. He was proud of his 44 years of sobriety. Most of all, he loved his family, and would do anything for them.
