Dave was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Elaine Licht, sister Brenda Licht, his partner Sherry Lavoie, and niece Kaylee Rae Licht.

Biography

David Frederick Licht, 60, of Kissimmee, Florida passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Orlando Health Saint Cloud Hospital. Dave was born August 10, 1963 in Pigeon, Michigan to Raymond and Elaine (Spomer) Licht. He graduated from Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port High School in 1982. He attended Michigan State University where he received a degree in plant science. After graduation he accepted a job in Florida at a nursery in Clermont. Shortly after Dave met the love of his life, his partner Sherry Lavoie and they remained together for over thirty years until her death in March 2023. Later Dave accepted a position at Dr. Jacks Pest Control and moved to Kissimmee. He loved his job and working with clients until he recently retired due to illness. Dave and Sherry were animal lovers and during their years together owned and cared for a wide variety of animals ranging from horses, miniature horses, dogs and cats, and most recently Dave's constant companion was his dog Ruby. Dave loved hunting and fishing and even though he was battling cancer he was able to make a trip back to Michigan in October to bow hunt and visit family and friends. Dave was successful and so proud he was able to harvest two bucks while he was home in Pigeon.

Patricia M. Drews, 81 years, passed away on December 26, 2023, surrounded by her family, at her home in Novi, Michigan. She was born on November 5, 1942 to the late Valentine and Bernice (Koroleski) Rice. Patricia married Donald Drews in 1964 and he preceded her in death in 1996 after 32 years of marriage. They presided in Filion. Patricia loved gardening, traveling with her husband, playing cards and Bingo, cooking, walking, shopping, sewing blankets, watching her favorite soap opera, and getting together with family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the Rosary Sodality, and the American Legion Post #499 in Port Austin, Michigan.

Magdalene Marie Stacer, age 95, of Ruth passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. She was born on February 12, 1928 in Sherman Township, Michigan to Henry and Anna (Buescher) Holdwick. She married Merlin A. Stacer on October 27, 1948 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. They celebrated 59 years together before his passing in 2008. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Christian Mothers. She had a very deep faith in God and prayed every day. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had home baked chocolate chip cookies ready for her grandchildren and other visitors. She had quite a green thumb having had a large, plentiful garden for many years, and gorgeous houseplants. She was a great seamstress and quilter.

Wayne L. Church of Filion, 85 passed away Saturday December 23, 2023 at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak with his family by his side. He was born on June 7, 1938 in Bad Axe to Rita (Case) and Reese Church. Wayne married Viola Ann Lamke on May 20, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Parisville. Viola preceded him in death on December 31, 2012. They shared over 51 years together and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011. In his early years, Wayne worked at Meagher Ford in Kinde, and retired after many years of working for the Huron County Road Commission (1968-2000). Wayne loved woodworking and you could always find him in his shed tinkering on something.

Melvin Joseph Leppek, age 98, of Ubly, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Melvin was born on November 5, 1925 in Ubly, son of the late Joseph L. and Bertha (Pawlowski) Leppek. He married Virginia Anna Susalla on September 30, 1950 in St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. Melvin farmed for many years. He served on the Ubly School Board and worked with the school board in getting the new gymnasium built. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing and enjoyed making his own lures. He also loved to do puzzles and search-a-word.

Erwin H. Schave, age 99 of Port Hope, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born on January 14, 1924 in Port Hope, to the late Adolph and Alice (Stermberg) Schave.Erv and Myrtle Townley, were united in marriage on August 22, 1953. She preceded him in death on OCtober 15, 1971. He and Helen Gettel were united in marriage on May 24, 1975, Helen preceded Erv in death on April 12, 2012. Erv farmed his whole life, including up until last year. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsman's Club. He loved to play euchre, and spend time with family and friends.

Kurt A. Belew, age 64, of Bad Axe passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 unexpectedly at his home in Bad Axe. He was born January 23, 1959 in Bad Axe, to John and the late Gloria (Stirrett) Belew. Kurt graduated from Bad Axe Public schools in 1977. There he excelled in sports like football, basketball, and baseball. He was a factory worker in Deckerville and Bad Axe, and later retired from CKS in Bad Axe. Kurt enjoyed bowling, golf, pool, and was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan. During his off time he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles which helped tax his mind. He could grill a steak like no one else. He was outgoing and loved to talk, and it didn't matter which social economic group you came from.

Biography

Alan Heckroth passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the age of 72. He was battling ALS and passed peacefully at home with his loved ones around him. Alan was born July 11, 1951 and was a longtime resident of Chandler Township. Al graduated from Laker High School in 1969 and stayed to work on the family farm until his father retired. He worked in Elkton at Agri Sales (later ADM) and then worked at the Pigeon Co-Op in the colored bean plant until his retirement last year. Al loved being active and staying busy and was ALWAYS mowing the lawn. When we think of Al, so many things come to mind. His deep love for his kids and grandkids, his love of practical jokes and making people laugh. His love of singing and dancing and shopping – Lord, that man could shop! Al was a kind man with a generous heart and was always willing to help others. Al loved anything to do with World War II and when he became home-bound, it was all he watched. Al watched so many movies, he had to go to ones with subtitles for something new. At the time of his passing, he should have been fluent in German, Russian, Italian, Chinese and Japanese. He skipped the ones in French. On August 24, 2019, he married long-time love Deborah Henne.

Biography

Michele Lynn Grekowicz, age 58 of Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, from injuries sustained in an accident. She was born on February 10, 1965 in Harbor Beach, to the late Eugene & Dian (Scholtz) Volmering. Michele and Chris Grekowicz were united in marriage on April 13, 1985 in Ruth. Alongside her husband, Chris, owned and operated Grekowicz Farms Inc. where she took up her second residency operating a chopper, coordinated the truck drivers and other personnel, meticulously cleaned the equipment, and kept the operation a well oiled machine. She was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church and was the Harbor Beach Middle School Track Coach from 1985-2019. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, an avid jogger (despite frigid temperatures), and gave selflessly to her community. She enjoyed playing cards, caring for her pets, and loved finding any reason to be with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved taking the grandkids outside on the Ranger, exploring the shop, baking desserts, and taking them swimming.

Leonard A. Pisarek, 91, of Gagetown, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in his home following a brief illness. He was born November 3, 1932 on the family farm in Wayne County to Michael and Stella (Darmofal) Pisarek. The family moved to the Gagetown area in 1946. Leonard graduated with the last Gagetown High School class in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1957. Leonard was a lifelong farmer; first with his father and then continuing with his brothers. He was the happiest while driving a tractor and working up the land, which is something Leonard did until just three days before this Thanksgiving. He was a member of Our Lady Consolata Parish, Gagetown and Cass City.

Biography

Richard G. Gorney, age 85 of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born on October 20, 1938 in Harbor Beach to the late Joseph and Josephine (Kranz) Gorney. He and Barbra Miller were united in marriage on June 10, 1961 in Parisville. Dick graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron School in 1956. He was a retired employee of the Harbor Beach Post Office, retiring in 1995. Dick was an avid sports fan, and religiously followed the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Boston Red Sox. Dick played in a semi-pro baseball league in Canada for the Listowel Legionaries and Hensell, Ontario. Later, he played in the Huron County Baseball League for Harbor Beach, Ubly and Port Austin. In 1957, he had the opportunity to play with the Port Huron All Stars in a game at Briggs Stadium (Later Tiger Stadium). He began a coaching career in the fall of 1957 as a Junior High Basketball Coach at OLLH Catholic School in Harbor Beach. Then he became involved with student sports in baseball, softball basketball, and Football (OLLH Only) in Port Hope and Harbor Beach plus he was a referee and umpire for 25 years. Some highlights of his coaching career include: 5 Championship Lions Little League teams, OLLH Baseball team tied for high school championship in 1963, the Port Hope Girls won the District Basketball championship in 1994, and in 2008 the Harbor Beach High School Softball team won the Districts, for the first time in the school's softball history by defeating Ubly 8-0. Dick also coached Country Schools Basketball, and summer softball, before retiring from coaching in 2015, making it 57 years devoted to student sports. Dick was presented with a Coaching Award during the last home league basketball game for the OLLH Trojans, on February 21, 1970. In 2010, Dick was presented with the Paul Harris Award from the Rotary Club of Harbor Beach, for his years of devotion to student sports. Dick was a collector of stamps. In the spring of 1965, he expanded that hobby into a business venture with his wife, Barbra, titled B & R Stamps. The first show attended was in Saginaw, but expanded into many other shows in the Detroit, Cleveland, Toledo, and Minneapolis areas, attending about 20 shows per year. The inventory included stamps from around the world plus new issues and topical stamps like marine life, sports, art, notable people honored on stamps, lunar new year among others. He was also a dealer in stamp supplies including lindner albums. He sold the business in 2004.

Born in Harbor Beach on May 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Zinger. Marjorie was a retired employee of the City of Harbor beach where she worked for 29 years, finishing her career as the city Treasurer in 2006. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lake Huron High School and the Port Huron College of Business. She was a member of the Harbor Beach Women’s Club and involved with Our Lady of Lake Huron Church. She enjoyed family, travel, and reading.

Martha Szymarek 77 years old, of Kinde, passed away on December 10, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Rogersville, Missouri, with her family by her side, and her husband holding her hand. She was born on July 30, 1946, to the late Arnold and Marie (Macklam) Gerlach in Manistee Michigan. She married the love of her life, Ronald Szymarek, on January 26, 1966, and they celebrated 57 years of marriage together. Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bad Axe, and retired after many years as the church secretary. She was very gifted in music, playing the piano, teaching herself to play string instruments, singing in ‘All For Hymn’ for 25 years and joining her voice in the Kinde Presbyterian Church choir. She and Ron were foster parents for over 14 years and she was proud to say she raised 75 kids, two of which they adopted and a child of their own. Martha enjoyed crocheting and sharing ornaments she created, loved to read, loved the beauty of flowers, with carnations as her favorite, and enjoyed learning the fun of line dancing. Martha’s quick wit and her sense of humor put a smile of the face of many people that she met. Martha loved spending time with her family and they will cherish their memories of her. She will be truly missed by those that knew her.

Nancy Ann Breznau, 92, of Lapeer, formerly of Caseville, went to be with our Lord on December 8, 2023. She died peacefully in her sleep early in the morning at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Nancy was born in Weehawken, NJ, the youngest of four children. She was a happy, friendly person, always with a smile on her face, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married John “Jack” Charles Breznau on September 8, 1951(married 67 years), and worked as a secretary at several locations, including the University of Detroit High School in Detroit, before establishing a retail business with her husband Jack. Starting as “The Village Shoppe,” it eventually became the “Seagull Mall” in Caseville and “Nancy’s” in Pigeon, MI. A highlight of their life was when Nancy (age 70) and Jack (age 74) became ordained local Episcopal priests on December 29, 2001.

Kathleen Ann Donahue, 59 years old of Port Austin, passed away on December 7, 2023 at Country Gardens in Pigeon. She peacefully took her last breath with her family by her side. She was born to the late Donald J. and Grace L. (Weber) Donahue on April 14, 1964. Kathleen was a well-known community member of Port Austin, a talented artisan and owner of Used-to-Bees Upholstery. She showed her work extensively throughout the county and became known for her custom memory pillows. Kathy was a fixture at the local Farmers Market and helped to make it the success it is today.

Ann was born on November 17, 1970 to the late Calvin and Marylou Tice. She married Edward (Ed) Drews on July 2, 1999 in Bad Axe. They had two daughters together, Ashlyn (Drews) Peterson and Abbigal (Abbi). Ed preceded her in death on January 13, 2005. Ann was a production worker for Gemini Corporation for 28 years and made many longtime friends there. She always looked forward to meeting up with her “Dining Diva’s” crew for lunches. At home, her longtime furry companion, Ruby, was always at her side.

Robert Charles Bugenski of Dwight Township passed away December 5, 2023 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. Robert was born December 31, 1941 son of late Ignatius and Agnes (Horetski) Bugenski. Robert was a lifelong member of St. Michaels’s Catholic Church of Port Austin. Robert retired from Tower Automotive after 43 years of excellent service. Robert loved all aspect of crop farming and was proud in sharing that love with his nephews, who have taken over the farm. He enjoyed riding on his John Deer gator with his lifelong companions, his brother Richard and his dog Jack; the three were never far apart.

She graduated from Pigeon High School in 1953. She married Alfred Kelterborn on June 30, 1956 at Salem Evangelical Church in Pigeon; he preceded her in death on December 15, 2009. Before having her family she worked for Pigeon State Bank. She raised her family on the family farm and was a farm wife. She was a member of Pinnebog United Methodist and formerly Caseville Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafting, gardening and baking.

He worked at Huron Castings, Tower and 26 years at Chrysler in Warren. Peanuts was an electrician by trade. He loved, loved, loved golfing with his buddies and did so every chance he got. Peanuts was a good guy that would help anyone if he could.

Our father, Brian Daniel Clancy, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, at the age of 66, surrounded by his children. Brian was born July 13, 1957, in Bad Axe, MI to the late Cecil and Margaret (Brashaw) Clancy. He graduated in 1975, from North Huron High School. He was a selfless, hardworking man, retiring as a fuel truck driver, from Farmers Co-Op, in July 2022. Our dad enjoyed a good trip to the casino, a game of Euchre, and was always cracking a joke.
