ese Middle and High Schools are making Reese Connections, a noticeably successful project with the help of their school's Peer to Peer Program, facilitator Rikkii Clarent, and the Student Council.

It started with April Autism Awareness Month and the initiative with the Peer to Peer group to spread more awareness to the student body and staff about autism as well as how to create an inclusive environment throughout the school for these students, and not just with their peer group they work with. Then, the ball kept rolling. Perhaps, they could create a type of project for any student with learning disabilities or physical disabilities. Take it one step further, and with the combined effort of the group, Clements and the high school Student Council they created Reese Connections.

Reese Connections is a new project this year. Its an effort to create a more inclusive environment within the whole school through a series of events organized and designed by the council and Peer to Peer.

As council member Emily stated, "Their not meant to form cliques, but I think that just for sports or whatever, if you're on the track team you hang out , if you have the same classes you hang out, and yeah the drama can sometimes be a big deal."

So, to counteract some of these 'intolerant behaviors that divide us' events were planned for Reese Connections. Some of the activities that were planned for the month of April include; puzzle and trivia games for Autism Spectrum Disorder, a Kick-Off event with an ice cream social and target group activities, a Question Circle Icebreaker, a Kahoot preparation followed by playing the game in classes allowing students to learn more about each other, #Buddy which allows students to use social media to find their secret buddy match for a snack and conversation period, and Walls of Intolerance and New Mural preparation and work, with Thursday, May 17th being the final event with an outdoor picnic event with games.

The Thursday main event was a success, noted the Council, students were interacting with people they did not normally speak with, many making new friends.
Council member Taylor added, "It was basically a way to get to know people and develop friendships with people they might not have beforehand."

Community members lent a hand in the success of the event as well. Local community members and businesses helped sponsor, providing 'Reese Connections' shirts to every student in the middle and high schools. One student, Jacob, noted that the sea of maroon and gold,at the practice football field on Thursday, reminded him of a large family.
