Owendale's long awaited sewer lagoon repair project is inching forward with possible completion next year.
"The sewer lagoon repair project is at the point where Fleis and Vandenbrink, who are the project's engineering company, is working on ways to trim down the scope of the project as much as possible and be within the requirements of the state." explained village Clerk Randy Howard.
Hopes are to be able to modify the lagoon project and still meet Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) requirements.
The village received a grant to help pay for the work that needs to be done to the lagoon and they want to try to keep the cost of the work to no more than the amount of the grant if possible.
In the Spring the village was awarded a $476,000 grant to address critical infrastructure at the sanitary sewer lagoon that is North of the village.
The funding was from the Financially Distressed Cities, Villages and Townships (FDCVT) grant program.
Howard has spent countless hours over the last few years filling out paperwork trying to secure funding to have the work done so the approximate 259 residents will not be overburdened with the cost of the work.
Some of the work the lagoon needs is the valves need to be replaced with new ones, and a concrete pump-house structure needs to be replaced, and some other repairs.
Hopefully, the engineering plans will be completed and bids let out in early 2026, with the project completed by the end of 2026, noted Howard.
Also, the council set Halloween trick-or-treat hours to be on Friday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
