On Saturday, October 25th, the Huron County Sheriff's office will be open to accept unwanted prescription drugs between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.
County residents may drop off these unwanted items at the main entrance, located off of South Street. This special day of collection is because of a partnership with the DEA, in an effort to reduce surplus prescription drugs that are commonly found in households.
Pills and patches are accepted, but not items such as syringes or inhalers. However, they will also accept vape pens, or other e-cigarette devices, as long as the batteries are removed. Devices with non-removable batteries cannot be accepted.
Since January 3, 2011, the Huron County Sheriff's office has been collecting unwanted prescription drugs during regular business hours. To date around 2,500 people have brought in over 2,100 lbs.
The service will remain available even if residents are unable to come this Saturday. Residents can get more information about this service by calling the Huron County Sheriff's office during regular business hours at 989-269-6500.
