Pathways In Action: Hemlock Expands Arts_ STEM & Esports

Hemlock Public School District is advancing its "Pathways in Action" plan to connect arts, STEM, and esports education from elementary through high school.
The initiative includes weekly art and music for all K-5 students, a new high school esports facility, and growing partnerships through the Lockwood STEM Center, where students join local mentors in coding, fabrication, and engineering.
Hemlock's Gray Matter Robotics Team #5712, the 2024 state champion, exemplifies the district's hands-on learning approach. Superintendent Don Killingbeck said the program aligns "classrooms, labs, and stages" to inspire creativity and career readiness. Board President Matt Wesener added that these pathways form a unified K-12 promise for every Huskie.
The initiative complements similar regional expansions in arts and STEM across Great Lakes Bay-area districts.
