Because cities continue to expand and big box stores crowd out mom and pop businesses, it is a matter of survival for rural communities and businesses to work together to find ways to adapt.
The Thumb Prosperity Summit met on Friday at the Kingston Community Center in Deford brought together Thumb counties to brainstorm, explore options, and share ideas and goals.
The summit was attended by businesses, agencies and government leaders from Tuscola, Sanilac and Huron County.
The event brought together community leaders, practitioners, and partners from across Michigan's Thumb to focus on the tools, systems, and relationships that truly serve rural people where they are.
The event was a reminder that rural prosperity starts with people, with relationships rooted in trust, collaboration, and community spirit.
The Michigan Office of Rural Prosperity hosted the summit that focused on rural realities from housing and childcare to leadership, governance, and resource networks with shared goals of building more prosperous and resilient communities.
