The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) notified Tuscola County law enforcement officials and a school district about an alleged threat that was made.
The FBI has identified the persons who allegedly made a threat against the Kingston Community School District, and they turned the information over to the Tuscola County Prosecutor's office to review for possible criminal charges.
Because of that incident, on Monday (Oct 20), there will be a greater police presence than normal in and around Kingston Community Schools.
That information was made public to help ease concerns about additional law enforcement presents at the schools.
The Kingston Police Chief Albert Pearsall and the department in conjunction with the FBI, the Michigan State Police, Tuscola County Sheriff's Department, and the Kingston Community Schools Administration Team, are all working closely to ensure the continued safety of students, staff, and community following a threat shared on social media that was flagged by the FBI.
Law enforcement agencies and school officials have identified the students involved. Those individuals have been removed from the school environment and are facing charges.
District officials and law enforcement agencies make it clear that any threat, whether made seriously or as a "joke" is never taken lightly.
Such actions can cause fear and disruption within schools and carry severe criminal and disciplinary consequences.
As a precaution and to provide reassurance, that is why law enforcement will be visible on Kingston's school and around the school grounds on Monday morning.
These proactive measures are being taken to help maintain a calm, a safe, and secure learning environment for students and staff.
The Kingston Police Department, together with our partnering agencies, remains fully committed to the protection and well-being of the Kingston community, students, and residents.
Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about the seriousness of making or sharing threatening statements, even in jest.
If anyone becomes aware of threats or concerning behavior, report it immediately to law enforcement, to school staff or administration, the school's resource officer, or to OK2SAY's website: https://ok2say.state.mi.us.
