Tuscolas New District 1 Commissioner is Ready to Work

Nancy Barrios
Tuscola County, MI.
- Nancy Barrios has officially taken on her role as Tuscola County's newest commissioner.
Barrios was appointed Monday during the county's committee of the whole meeting as District 1 Commissioner. During a special board meeting that followed, she took the oath of office.
She replaces John Goodchild, who resigned after serving about seven months. Barrios represents the district that includes the townships of Akron, Columbia, Elkland, Elmwood, Fairgrove, Gilford, and Wisner, along with the villages within those townships.
On Thursday, Barrios attended her first official meeting as commissioner. She said she had contacted each of the municipalities in her district and had attempted to reach the various boards and commissions she is assigned to, though some contact information was missing. Clerk Jodi Fetting said she would provide the missing information.
Barrios brings extensive experience and knowledge to the board. She holds a bachelor's degree in organizational development and a master of science in administration from Central Michigan University, with a concentration in human resources management.
She has worked with service programs across Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, and Lapeer counties. Some of the programs she has been involved with include the county's planning commission, the Human Development Commission, the PA 116 Farmland Preservation Act, the Cass River Greenway, the Tuscola Pumpkin Festival, and she currently serves as co-chair of the county's park and recreation committee.
