Huron County, MI - The Huron County Sheriff's Department is using technology to crack down on speeders.

Officials recently put a second SpeedAlert radar trailer into service. Since deployment, the department has received multiple requests from communities across the county to place the trailer in their areas to slow drivers.

"For those drivers who still don't want to slow down, many have found themselves being ticketed by deputies who often sit stationary near trailer locations," Sheriff Kelly Hanson said.

The trailers can also capture still images of the immediate area and send tamper notifications if someone tries to damage or move them. They record each vehicle's time of passing and highest speed.

The second trailer, like the first purchased five years ago, was funded through a Secondary Road Patrol Grant of $12,000 at no cost to taxpayers.

Communities interested in using the trailer can contact the sheriff's department at 989-269-6500 during regular business hours.
