Mid - Michigan - According to a press release from the State of Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a continuation budget early Wednesday morning to keep state government operating while the Legislature finalizes Michigan's full fiscal year budget.

The move ensures that state services remain uninterrupted and that all state employees continue working and receiving pay.

Last week, Whitmer, along with Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and House Speaker Matt Hall, announced a bipartisan agreement on a balanced budget aimed at addressing key issues for Michigan families. The proposed budget includes funding to repair roads, cut taxes for seniors and working families, protect Medicaid and hospitals, boost education funding-including free breakfast and lunch for students-and make critical public safety investments.

"Amid national economic uncertainty-and a federal government shutdown-Michigan continues to prove that we can work together to get things done," Whitmer said. She thanked legislators from both parties for their work and said she is ready to conduct a final legal review and sign the full budget into law once it is delivered.

The continuation budget provides temporary funding, allowing lawmakers more time to finalize the full fiscal year plan without disrupting essential state services.
