Sandusky, MI
- After several months of planning, McKenzie Health Systems is ready to start construction of a new hospital.
The groundbreaking ceremony was today.
The project received a financial boost to make the hospital happen.
U.S. Department of Agriculture approved a $74 million loan to pay for a new hospital in Sandusky.
The new facility will be a 68,000-square-foot hospital to replace its existing campus in Sandusky that is about a mile away.
Overall the new hospital will be about 20,000-square feet larger than the present hospital.
The new hospital will replace the one that was built in 1967, and was expanded three times over the years.
According to McKenzie Health System leaders, the existing hospital lacks flexibility to adapt to new technology and treatment methods.
