Port Huron Man Admits To Killing His Children

A Port Huron man accused of shooting three of his children, killing one of them, has been ordered to stand trial.
Jeffery Smerer, 44, was bound over Tuesday to face charges including open murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of first-degree child abuse, and multiple felony firearm offenses stemming from a Sept. 11 incident.
Police said they were called to an apartment on Glenview Court around 6 a.m. that day, where they found three siblings with gunshot injuries. A 17 year old boy later died, while his 13 year old brother and 12 year old sister were critically wounded.
Investigators allege Smerer carried out the shooting after planning it for at least a week.
During the incident, the children's mother and a 20 year old son struggled with him, reportedly stopping further violence.
