- In an update to the September 26th accident at the intersection of Deckerville Road and Hurds Corner Road, Russian national Pavel B. Shchukin, 55, has been formally charged. Shchukin was identified as the driver of the semi-truck that collided with a vehicle carrying 8 members of the Putman family, well - known from the TLC reality show "Meet the Putmans." The crash resulted in three fatalities and five serious injuries.
When asked by the judge Shchukin explained that he lived in Florida for about 10 years, and then near Seattle, Washington for about 5. Making a known total of about 15 years in The United States, and then has driven truck as a United States Resident for those years. He claimed he had no criminal record or negative driving record of any kind and stated he had absolutely no ties to the Thumb of Michigan.
Shchukin now faces five seperate counts of causing impairment of bodily functions with a motor vehicle, each of the five charges against Shchukin carries a potential sentence of up to 93 days in city jail and/or a $500 fine per each count.
He also faces 3 counts of a moving violation that has caused death, which is a misdemeanor. These three misdeamors carry a possible fine of up to $2,000 each or 1 year in Jail, per each count.
His bond has been set at $100,000, and he is required to wear a GPS tracker. He was told that he was not allowed to leave Michigan and he replied to the judge "I do not have the funds to maintain a living here" is what Broomberg translated. The judge continued on to say that out of all the violent people he has met, that Shchukin shows remorse and heavy weight in his shoulders and his heart about this tragedy. To discuss his issues with his court appointed attorney, he continued on to say that Shchukin's court date is scheduled for October 13th at 9 a.m. at the Tuscola County Courthouse.
The family has identified those killed in the crash as William (Bill) Putman, his wife, Barb Putman; and their daughter-in-law, Megan Putman. Other members of the family including Noah and Gia Putman are currently in serious conditions, with a long road to recovery ahead of them according to a post to Facebook by the Putman family. The community continues to offer support for the surviving family members who are currently being treated for their injuries.
The family has identified the remaining injured as Dr. Blake Putman, Lulu, Alena.
