Lexington Man Faces 12 Felony Charges

The case against a 40-year old Lexington man who allegedly shot at police officers and others is working its way through the Sanilac County court system.
The incident happened on March 5, 2024, when the Lexington Police Department responded to a call from the 7100 block of Lester Street about a man screaming and shooting a gun.
When the Lexington Police along with deputies from the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene, Carl Alton Hoffman allegedly shot at officers and police vehicles.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team was called for assistance during the standoff that lasted about four hours.
During that time, Hoffman wounded two officers with a pellet rifle.
As a result of the incident, Hoffman was charged with 12 felonies.
The charges against him are: two counts of assault with intent to murder, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of malicious destruction of police property, three counts of felony weapons with a pneumatic gun, and one count of police officer-assault/resisting obstructing.
Hoffman’s bond is set at $750,000.
