Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in downtown Bad Axe on Thursday afternoon after one driver ran a red light, police said.
Bad Axe Police responded to the intersection of South Port Crescent Street and West Huron Avenue around 3 p.m. when a 2015 Chevy Malibu, driven by a 42 year old Bad Axe woman, went through a red light and struck a 2021 Chevy Spark driven by a 33 year old Ubly woman. The impact caused heavy damage, and the Malibu continued east before hitting a curb and light pole.
Both drivers were taken to Scheurer Hospital for treatment, while a passenger in the Spark, who suffered minor injuries, was also hospitalized. The Malibu driver had to be freed from her car by firefighters using the Jaws of Life.
Police said the driver of the Malibu admitted fault and will be cited for failing to obey a traffic signal. Multiple agencies, including the Bad Axe Fire Department, Central Huron Ambulance, Elkton Ambulance, Sebewaing Police, and the Huron County Sheriff's Office, assisted at the scene.
