North Huron Schools is preparing for a busy and exciting fall season with events, celebrations, and new initiatives underway.
Homecoming will take place on Friday, October 3, when the North Huron Warriors face off against Peck High School. Thanks to a generous donation from the Gemini Group, admission to the game will be free for all spectators. Families and fans are encouraged to come out, wear blue and gold, and show their Warrior spirit under the Friday night lights. The North Huron Athletic Boosters are also encouraging the community to stock up on spirit wear through their online store ahead of the big game.
The district is also highlighting the accomplishments of its long-standing FFA program. North Huron FFA has earned recognition across the state and nation for its success in competitions and leadership development. Members are equally committed to service, with projects ranging from community gardens to food drives and their Annual events like Salsa Wars and Farm to Fork. This year, the program continues to grow under the leadership of teacher and FFA teacher Mrs. Natalie Holbrook, alongside assistant Ms. Nicole Welchner.
In addition, North Huron Schools is in the process of designing a new district website and is seeking input from families and community members through an online survey. Superintendent outreach meetings have also been scheduled in Port Hope and Port Austin to hear directly from residents about their ideas for the future of the district. The Port Hope meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 1, at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Hope Activity Center, while the Port Austin meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 7, at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Austin Welcome Center.
The district is also exploring the role of artificial intelligence in classrooms. Superintendent Dr. Sean Wightman noted that while AI tools can be helpful in providing instant feedback and supporting teachers, schools are working carefully to balance the benefits with challenges such as over-reliance and equity concerns.
In athletics, North Huron's fall sports schedule is underway. Junior high volleyball will host Caseville on Monday, September 29. The junior high football team will travel to Deckerville on Tuesday, September 30, while junior high volleyball will play at Bay City All Saints on Wednesday, October 1. JV and varsity volleyball will host Carsonville-Port Sanilac on Thursday, October 2, before the varsity football team caps off the week with Homecoming on Friday, October 3.
