A recently appointed Tuscola County Commissioner announced his resignation during today's county meeting.
Commission Chair Kim Vaughan read Commissioner John Goodchild's resignation which said he needed more time with his family and had other commitments, and his decision was not made lightly.
In mid February, Goodchild took the oath of office to become the commission representative for commission district# 1, which covers the townships of Akron, Columbia, Elkland, Elmwood, Fairgrove, Gilford and Wisner as well as the villages in those areas.
He replaced Tom Young who was just starting his tenth year as a commissioner, unexpectedly passed away.
Candidates interested in the open seat must be at least 18 years of age, be a registered voter, and live within the district.
Because Goodchild's resignation happened during today's (Sept. 25) county meeting, it may take a day or two before the open seat is posted on the county's website of tuscolacounty.org.
Per state law, the county is to make an appointment to that position within 30 days or conduct a special election to fill it.
