In Huron County Circuit Court, the arraignment of Andrew C. Paseshnik was paused today to clarify sentencing guidelines.

Paseshnik faces charges of attempted extortion and a misdemeanor third offense.

Under a proposed plea agreement, he would enter a plea of guilty or no contest to both counts, with a habitual offender third offense enhancement applied to each.

In exchange, the prosecution agreed to forgo any further habitual offender filings.

During the hearing, the court corrected the record regarding potential prison time, noting that the maximum penalty is 10 years - not 20 - based on a 5 year base penalty for each offense doubled by the habitual offender status.

During the hearing, the court reviewed a criminal history including convictions for attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct, fleeing and eluding police, and multiple domestic violence charges. A Huron County Sheriff's Department incident report served as the factual basis for the plea.

Sentencing is set for October 26th, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Bond remains at $10,000, 10%.
