Applegate First Disincorporation Meeting on Monday

During a July meeting, the Applegate Village Council approved starting the process of disincorporation, which means Washington Township would take over the operations the village did to become the governing body.
The first meeting of the dissolution commission, which is composed of village and township residents, will meet for the first time at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, at the village hall.
The disincorporation issue began with a citizen petition to dissolve the village government and fold operations into Washington Township.
Because of all of the steps in the disincorporation process it is expected to take about a year to complete.
The process of ending a village government is a complicated process to transfers all of the village's assets, properties, and governance responsibilities directly to the township in which the village resides.
