Drowning at Lake St Clair Rafting Event

A Northville man drowned during the Aug. 8 Raft-Off event on Lake St. Clair.

The United States Coast Guard, and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Marine Division were assisted by the Macomb County Dive Team responding to the mouth of Lake St. Clair's South Channel for the report of an individual who entered the water and had not resurfaced.

Following an extensive search, the body of James Kramer, 23, was recovered at about 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10.

According to witness reports, Kramer went under the water during the event and did not resurface.

The report of the incident noted that foul play was not suspected.
