The proposed purchase of some long-abandoned property in the heart of downtown Sebewaing could mean some new business development.
The Sebewaing Village Council during their last meeting approved a purchase agreement for two parcels of land the village owns at 249 North Center Street.
The council authorized President Julie Epperson and Village Treasurer Linda Engelhardt to sign a purchase agreement with developer Ashley Bumhoffer with the attorney's approval.
The original company at that location was Sebewaing Industries.
The last owner was Lapeer Metal Stamping (LMS) from 2004 to 2008 when the business closed.
When the building was demolished in 2018, environmental contamination was found.
Removal of the contaminated soil and monitoring was done for several years until it was determined the property had been clean.
