After more than nearly two decades, Denmark Township's Lagoon issues will soon be able to be addressed.
When Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed next year's budget on July 21, it included $1.5 million for Denmark's lagoon repairs.
That money plus the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that was distributed during the COVID Pandemic plus additional grants will be enough to get the necessary lagoon repairs done.
Now that the township finally has enough money to do some much needed and long overdue repairs, there will soon be a meeting to begin to draft a notice for bidding to do the work.
The goal is to be able to do the repairs this fall.
The lagoon, which was built in 2027 and financed with a 40 year bond 20 years ago, still has several more years before it is fully paid off.
Shortly after the warranted ended, the lagoon developed some major issues. The liner of one of the lagoons started failing.
If the lining fails, it could create a major environmental issue with sewage leaking out in the surrounding area.
