The U.S. Coast Guard has completed operation Spring Restore ahead of schedule. Operation Spring Restore involves reinstalling 1,216 federal navigation aids. The aids include lighted and unlighted beacons and buoys. Due to ice not being as heavy this past winter, crews began the operation March 14th, two weeks before the planned start date. A total of seven aids-to-navigation teams, five cutters, and additional help and support from the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and the border lakes Lamplighters were on the water putting the aids out. U.S. crews also gave assistance to the Canadian Coast Guard with the placement of several weather buoys on Lake Ontario.
