Smoke Detector Saves Lives of Residents and Firefighters

A working smoke detector is credited with saving residents and keeping damage to a minimum during an early morning fire in Mayfield Township.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they addressed and contained the fire to the attached garage.

Because the smoke detectors work, the family was able to escape and the early warning kept the blaze to a minimum so no firefighters were injured.

Besides the Lapeer Fire and Rescue Department, Elba Township's Fire and Rescue, the Lapeer County EMS, and the Lapeer County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.
