When the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 11 to conduct a meeting of the whole, it will be in a different location.
The meeting will be in the courtroom of the county's historic courthouse.
The meeting will also be an opportunity to show off the renovations that have been done so far to preserve the 179-year old courthouse thanks to donations.
In September 2024, the county commissioners approved increasing the contribution to the courthouse's renovations to $1.25 million using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that were received from the federal government to help offset the financial impact of the COVID pandemic.
The initial plan was to donate $750,000 from ARPA and to apply for a matching grant from the National Park Service's Save America's Treasures funds, but that didn't happen.
