Although the state requires school districts to have the next fiscal year's budget approved before July 1, schools had to blindly set the 2026-2027 budget without knowing how much funding the state will provide.
When the Marlette Community School District's Board of Education approved the budget for next year, they did a conservative one with plans to use some fund reserves to balance it because they didn't know what the state was going to provide.
The board projected revenues of $10,169,605 and they estimated expenditures of $10,565,934 during the 2026-2027 school year.
Although it is estimated the state's per pupil funding will be about $200 more per student, the board budgeted for an increase of only $150 per student from the state.
As of July 1, the district has a fund balance of $3,144,644, and is projected ending balance on June 30, 2027, of $2,748,315.
Regarding the next academic year, the board approved renewing the contract with Chartwell to be the district's food service provider.
