Marlette Wants Grants for Infrastructure and a Police Position

The Marlette City Council is waiting to hear back on a state grant application that was submitted last month, and on a grant for a resource officer.
The council applied for a $1.4 million grant to help pay for replacing the 150 lead water lines in the city.
The state mandated that all lead service lines have to be replaced following the Flint water crisis fiasco.
And, that is not the only grant that is being sought.
The city's police Chief Chris Braegger reported that he and the Marlette School District are looking for funding to continue the school resource officer position.
Another grant and additional funding are being sought because the last grant for the program ended when the 2025-2026 school year did.
If funding is able to be secured, Jim Sanchez agreed to continue as the district's resource officer for another year.
