During the last meeting of the Marlette School District, the board renewed the contract of Superintendent James Marshall following a positive evaluation.
Marshall received an evaluation of "effective", which is the highest evaluation ranking that can be given.
The Michigan Department of Education started requiring superintendents be evaluated by their district's board of education in 2024.
The rankings that can be given are effective, minimal effective, and ineffective.
The evaluation takes into consideration several factors and regulations to use to make a determination on the rank to be given.
With that done, the board approved a three-year contract for him.
The new contract calls for Marshall to receive a 6 percent wage increase the first year, and 3 percent increases given during the second and the third year of the contract.
For the 2026-2027 academic year, his salary will be about $120,000.
