The Sebewaing River break-wall project is creating issues with internet service to the village office.
Because of the River Project, the fiber line will have to be rerouted so the fiber connection to the office will be disconnected.
The Light and Water Department did a preliminary test on the issue. It was determined the village office could lose connection to the data that exists at the light and water department.
That connectivity issue needs to be sorted out before Light and Water does the fiber boring for the river project.
Two options were received to provide connectivity back to the village office, and research was done on various venues to understand what needs to be done for the village office to be able to operate.
It was determined, the office could still have access to its data that is on the light and water's server system and continue to be saved should that server continue to be used.
Another option is for a patch to Light and Water's server to be created. It would be behind the current firewall.
Doing that would act as a bridge to the Light and Water firewall and tunnel traffic through their firewall over the internet.
It is believed that the month-to-month device option would be the most economical option.
Another option would be for the village to have its own firewall that would protect just the village operations.
That would be a dedicated firewall for the office that would allow for a complete separation of internet connections between the Light and Water Department and the village.
It will be up to the village office and the council to decide which will be the best and most economical way to go.
