A big barn fire broke out on Monday evening on Gaeth Road. Fire departments were dispatched at 9:35 pm when the came call came in. Four fire departments responded, including Sebewaing, Fairhaven, Owendale and Unionville.
The blaze involved an old barn that the property owner owned and was getting rid of. The owner said that he was burning old barn wood and reportedly hot flying sparks from debris being burned then ignited the roof of the new barn.
Firefighters worked for approximately an hour to contain the flames. Fire Chief Matt Bumhoffer said that it took about two and a half hours to make sure that it was fully extinguished so that it would not reignite.
A Sebewaing Ambulance was on standby during the incident.
