In Huron County Circuit Court, Judge Prill presided over the sentencing of Sarah Ann Murray. Murray had previously pled no contest to assault and battery against a Department of Health and Human Services employee.

Defense attorney Dallas L. Rooney presented Murray as a 35 year old single mother, employed, with no prior felonies. Rooney sought alternatives to jail, such as community service or weekend sentencing, citing childcare and Murray's community involvement. He characterized the incident as an isolated event.

Prosecuting attorney Timothy J. Rutkowski highlighted the victim's rights, noting the case workers emotional distress and physical marks from the assault. Rutkowski stated the victim was conducting a court-ordered home inspection for child safety and requested a minimum of 9 months jail time.

Judge Prill acknowledged Murray's character references and employment but stressed the seriousness of assaulting a caseworker.

The court sentenced Sarah Ann Murray to 2 years of probation. Conditions include no contact with the victim, mandatory treatment, and a weapons prohibition.

Murray was ordered to serve 180 days in county jail, with 10 days on weekends, starting June 19th. The remaining jail time is held in abeyance, pending successful probation completion. Financial penalties were also imposed.
