The low turnout during the Novesta Township Annual Board of Trustees had officials concerned.
Because only 10 people attended the meeting, the board felt that was not a fair representation of the township's population so they discussed abolishing that meeting.
A township's annual meeting is a formal gathering of registered voters to allow them to directly have a voice on some local issues such as: voting on township operations, authorization of some projects, and approving some financial issues.
During the meeting, Supervisor Chad Daniels noted that a township resident who is eligible to register to vote, but has not registered can voice their option and vote on issues during the annual meeting.
After a discussion, the board decided to ask township residents if the annual meeting should be abolished or not on the August 4 election ballot.
A majority of townships in the Thumb have done away with annual meetings.
That is not the only local issue that will be on that ballot.
Voters will also be asked to support paying to have gravel roads brined to keep dust down, and to renew a millage for roads.
