The goal of Michigan's Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) program is creating housing, and one project is in Sanilac County.

The project in Port Sanilac that was awarded funds was for a vacant lot where a 17,560-square foot, two-story building in the downtown area will be constructed.

The plan is for the "Port Sanilac Wellness and Lofts" building to develop seven American with Disability Act (DDA) apartments as well as commercial space for businesses.

To help with that project, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's (MEDC ) Revitalization and Placemaking grant awarded at $1.5 million for the project.

Also to support the project's development, the Port Sanilac Council approved Michigan State Housing Commission tax increment financing, which will save the project about $675,000 over 20 years.
